I was wondering if anyone has found a good company that sales entire wiring harnesses for my car. It is a '68 Corona RT52 chassis. I am a subscriber to AutoRestorer magazine and they mention Painless Wiring Co. Has anyone had experience with this company or any other? Thanks!

Jason: 1968 Corona RT52, 4-speed manual. Please give the frame number & engine serial number. Does it have factory A/C?
I will be interested in what you find out about having new wiring harnesses made.
I have some stock of used wiring harnesses that I can supply ($55.00) to use for parts or as the new harness if better than what you have. I suggest that you remove the old harness from the car (I have had the large grommet thru the firewall reproduced), wash with soap & water to remove grease & dirt, spread the harness out on a sheet of plywood & remove the tape. Use nails & rubber bands, or some method to hold the harness to the board while you work on it. Inspect all the internal connections and repair them as required (I like to clean & solder them), inspect all the connectors, look for burnt & missing wires, and replace with parts from the donor wiring harness. After you are happy with the harness, install a new grommet & re-tape the harness.
I have new catalogs available, $20.25 to the USA (cost to copy & mail) or $27.25 outside the USA, or free with an order.

Carlyn, the frame number is RT52-29380 and I believe the engine serial # is 44010. It does not have factory a/c, however, if I can find all the components I may install what would have been factory a/c. I will be moving to Florida soon and would like to drive it with year-round comfort. I have done more research on Painless Performance harness kits, painlessperformance.com. They offer universal kits and focus more into the domestics. That would be great for hot rods and custom setups. But, I am strict about keeping 100% stock. I will definately use the harness pinup on the plywood. I also have a wire schematic that I had oversized three times, then spent a few hours coloring the lines to be read easier. Original was 4" X 6". Assuming I can find new wire with correct color coordination, I should be able to fabricate(?) a harness by using the two above setups. Thanks for you reply!

Jason: RT52-29380, made 05/68. The engine serial number (44010 is probably the last five digits of the block part number) should be in the range from 3R-751200 (in 04/68) to 3R-825888 (in 09/68).
For A/C, I suggest that you find a donor car, park it beside your car, and then start work. There are a bunch of parts on the factory system that are different.
On the wiring harness, making a complete new one would be great. However, I suggest that if you refurbish the old one, that will be almost as good.

Carlyn, I greatly appreciate your advice. Definately steps me in the right direction. I will look harder for the engine serial number. I noticed that you have 2 '68 RT52s. What type of accessories (if any) are on them? The only one on mine is an AM/FM radio. The car has blue exterior and white interior. I do like that color coordination. What color combos do you have? Thanks!
