Avatar headaches

I've tried everything to get my own avatar on here, but no matter what I do, it just isn't there. I have put my own avatars on several other boards that use this same software, so I don't get it!

I've tried sizing it from 50 x 50 pixels at its URL, and also tried putting all sizes in the SIZE boxes in the forum here where it asks. Tried jpg and bmp versions. When I enter the URL in the avatar box, then push MODIFY PROFILE, it just goes away when the profile page reloads. No error, no avatar, and the avatar URL is gone from the box. I see everybody else has a custom avatar, so I'm doing something wrong. Believe me I'm not being lazy in making this thread... I have about 4 hours into fooling around with it since I joined the new forum!

The avatar is located at home.mindspring.com/~[e-mail]/torcAvtr.jpg

and at home.mindspring.com/~[e-mail]/torcAvtr.bmp

Note that I think right now the jpg image is at full size (1200 x 1000 or something) after trying it at 90 x 90 pixels because I wondered if the TORC forum wanted to see a bigger image to be able to resize, or something. The bmp image is now a small 75 x 75 pixels size.

Any help will be appreciated...

Don't know if this is a clue, but I see that the URLs of the avatar are broken in the thread I just made, and therefore the links in the thread are dead. But if you type the whole thing into the address bar, you will see that it's a good address.

I have my Avatar linked from my photo album on Photobucket and have no problems. I just have it's URL pasted into the box. Without giving the complete URL, it basically starts out like this: img.photobucket.com/(then the rest of the address...)

I'm not well enough versed in technical mumbo-jumbo when it comes to these things - but it went quick & easy for me & I have had no troubles.

Didn't you have an Avatar when you first started posting? I thought i remembered seeing one?

YES! I think I did, and it disappeared.

I wonder if there's just some kind of compatibility problem with the Earthlink webspace address? Maybe the TORC software doesn't like the eMail address being embedded in the address. I haven't gone to Photobucket yet, but I have heard it's a good place to host photos. Maybe I'll try that.

I'm no expert, but my guess is maybe it does have something to do with that email portion of the address, since apparently other Avatar links work just fine.

We are using the ProBoards software which is pretty simple & user friendly.

Besides Photobucket - www.photobucket.com/ - you might want to check out Flickr - www.flickr.com/ also. I use both.

It WORKETH on the first try! I joined Photobucket, so evidently the Earthlink webspace with the email address being the username was the problem..

Many corporate and government systems filter photo sites, maybe that the problem.
