Quite often we are asked to recommend a mechanic, repair shop or restoration shop.
Well, rather than have us provide suggestions that might be biased, we would like to invite you, our members to provide the recommendations.
If there is a shop or mechanic you'd like to recommend, please provide pertinent info such as: Name of Shop Contact person or mechanic at shop Street address City State Zip code Phone number Email address
Also tell everyone about your experience with the shop & why you would recommend them.
Note: This is not meant to be a place for shops to advertise, but instead is meant be a way for TORC members to share their favorite shops. Remember we have the right to remove any posts we feel are strictly for commercial gain.
[glow=red,2,300]PLEASE[/glow] - only list REPAIR SHOPS here. Don't post questions about shops or parts - please do that in the Buy and Sell sub-forums and start a new thread if necessary. Anything besides actual shop listings will be deleted from this thread. Thanks!

Name of Shop: Tidewater Z Auto ServiceContact person or mechanic at shop: Todd WagnerStreet address: 734 Poquoson Ave City: PoquosonState: VAZip code: 23662Phone number: 757-868-6753Email address: zfixers@widomaker.comWebsite: www.tidewaterz.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1This shop does not specialize in Toyota, but does specialize in Nissan/Datsun. It was originally conceived as a specialty shop for Nissan/Datsun Z cars, which it still is. Eventually they began working on all Nissan products and also others. Nevertheless, Todd is a personal friend and works on all of my cars. The work is first rate as well as the expertise and customer service. They are a small shop and very friendly, and will spend time with you. Your Toyota will be repaired properly and professionally, and you can ask for Toyota genuine parts to be used or aftermarket as you wish. I own four cars, two are Toyotas and he repairs them all. He also does street and racing mods.

Envirotech Toyota Specialists Owner/Technician: John Marin Phone: (650) 525-YOTA 96821761 Leslie St San Mateo, CA 94402 www.envirotechtoyota.comIf you're on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula, Envirotech Toyota Specialists is a great little shop in San Mateo with a friendly, honest, and knowledgeable technician. As owner operator, John is able to give your Toyota the attention it needs. He's the only one there, so his work may pile up on him, but give him a deadline and he'll meet it. The best thing about this place is that it is located no more than 40 yards from the Caltrain station platform. This makes dropping your vehicle off very easy. I met John over three years ago, when I had my '96 Avalon towed in from west side San Jose. I had seen his sign while taking the train home from San Francisco one day, and loved the idea of dropping my car off and taking the train home. He made me feel comfortable about leaving my car in his hands, and ever since then John performs all the maintenance on my family's vehicles. If you have the time, he'll show you some especially curious warn parts that he's taken out of his customers' cars recently. Now that I have moved to Santa Cruz for school, I miss John . A side note: John's had some really bad experiences with a couple Hondas and Mazdas, so try not to bring him any, as he has strong feelings about them.

My favorite shop so far is this:
Moyer's Auto Repair 2040 S Grand Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92705
The guy's name is Frank, and he'll work on anything Japanese or American. He mostly specializes in older vehicles, but he works on everything. I've seen cars as old as 1915, and as new as a year old. I like him because he's not out to make a quick buck. He'll frequently tell me how to fix something because he knows I can do it, rather than have me come in and pay him. When I do leave my car, he's reasonable with cost. I once left my Celica with him to track down an electrical problem for two weeks. The problem was so elusive that he couldn't find it, so he didn't charge me anything. Great guy, super honest, and he knows almost everything!

There's a body shop I go to in Santa Ana CA called:
Dealer's Service Repair and Painting. 1343 E Borchard Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92705 (714) 543-8458
They are a bit on the pricey side, but they have the most important part down: the paint. I've seen paint from many body shops look awful, and even argued with body shop people about why they wouldn't fix cars properly. These guys always do a good job, and their paint is excellent. The last car I had them paint, went for seven years in my care afterward, and the paint still looked like new.
