Okay...... I just want to know before I pull my brakes apart if anyone can tell me whether the brake shoes are the same on the front and on the back? I have a Lite-Stout, but my assumption would be that the brakes would be the same as the regular Stout.
The reason I want to know this is I have just got hold of some shoes and I have 8 the same. Is that what I need?
Cheers people.

I have a '65 as well, and they brake shoes I bought from the Toyota dealership are all the same. But you go first. I haven't pulled mine apart yet either b/c I'm sure I'll break a rusty spring that is a one of a kind.

nah, your both ok. They are all the same and there isn't anything difficult or scary on them. Its prob about the easiest job you guys will come across. Hoodride, I would take yours apart and see if you can't force those things to move again, Im sure they are gonna be rock hard but we will see. Have fun, later. Andrew

I've never tried to do brakes myself before so it's going to be interesting, but I think I'll be fine. Once I'm done I might do a "Step-By-Step Toyota Stout Brake Overhaul" post with pics for anyone who is like me and never done it before. I think Andrew was right when he at some stage recently, said my biggest problem was probably that my shoes were jammed on. I had a front wheel off the other day and found that my hub didn't rotate freely. At first I had concerns that my bearings might be shagged, but I kept forcing it around and it gradually started to free up. I expect to be doing my brakes in the next 4 to 6 weeks. I have set myself some deadlines in order to have the Stout on the road in time for the end of winter here so I can put it in some shows. Finances will be the biggest factor, but who needs to eat anyway.
