Well, as previously mentioned, I bought a Stout from an older fellow on a property about an hour out of Adelaide. I am the 4th Owner and it had only served as a farm truck all it's life. As shown in one of the photo's below, the odometer reads 99050 Miles and I could believe that it has never been clocked because the condition of this truck really is incredible. Don't let the faded paint fool you.
The first I rang to speak to the owner, I made a time with him to go see the truck. He told me to bring a battery with me if I wanted to try and start it, but it hadn't been run for 2 years and it hadn't been registered or driven for about 9. It had been sitting in a barn for the first 7 of those 9 years and then the last 2 years it had just been parked under a tree around the side of their house.
A buddy and I took the hour drive on a Sunday morning to go have a look at this thing. When I saw it in the flesh I fell in love immediately. I had never even heard of a Toyota Stout, let alone seen one and I have spent about 20 years hanging around car shows, cruises and anything else to do with cars since I was 12.
The whole vehicle was covered in Spider Webs and nasty stuff like that and the amount of huge spiders I saw in the engine bay and the door jams etc was quite off putting. In my excitement I quickly forgot though and grabbed the battery we had with us and hooked it up. Once I had pumped a bit of fuel into the carby I could not believe the Stout just fired up. My buddy stood at the back to watch for smoke etc and all he saw was an initial puff of blue smoke and then nothing. I couldn't believe it.... still can't.
I took the Stout for a quick run on this guy's property completely forgetting that just because it goes doesn't mean it stops. I found out quickly that it had no brakes at all, but fortunately there was room for it to just stop by itself. So, I did a deal with the guy there and then to buy the car and organised to return the following week with a car trailer to pick it up.
What I hadn't thought of was that I had no-where to store it. This was to be car number five in my fleet and I only have room for two where I live. So I had to call in a favour from a buddy to store it at his house until I had sold a couple of my cars and had room for it.
As it was when I arrived to look at it:
Driving it onto trailer:
Loaded up and heading home:
Stored at a friend's house:
Ready to be picked up by tow truck and delivered to my place:
Being loaded onto Tow Truck:
Poor weather conditions on the way back to my place:
Finally at rest in my car port:
A little bit of surface rust never hurt anyone:
99,050 Miles - I believe it too:
Well, Sunday just gone I drove the Stout around to my parents place which is only about 3 streets away. Took it real slow due to the lack of brakes, but they have more room and more tools ;D than I have.
Quick photo shoot with my ratter Mk1 Ford Cortina:
Note the old Shell Oil wooden box on the roof rack. I just picked that up from a boot sale that morning:
Other assorted photo's:
I really don't like this bar sitting up behind the back window..... so ugly:
Some-one on another forum said the Stout looked like "Mater" from the movie "Cars":
Lite-Stout badge on glove box. No-where near as cool as the script badge on the US Stouts.
My favourite thing on the truck. This is a very very old sticker for our roadside assistance service:

Okay....... sorry that was so long everyone...... especially sorry to the dial-up people. I love my Stout though and I just couldn't help but post a whole stack of photo's of it. ;D
So now it's at my parents place ready for a bit of a tidy up, brake overhaul and just a bit of a service and tune. Really should be enough to get this old timer back on the road.
