I have a 1980 corolla wagon which I need to replace the starter on. Seemed pretty simple until I find that there is first, no room to get at the thing and then it seems to be mounted with something other than the standard couple of bolts through the bell housing. I have a nearly worthless chilton's book that refers to something like a mounting clip? Has anyone done one of these or can give me some insight into how this thing works or how to get it off? Any help would be appreciated!

If I remember correctly there is a bolt that goes in from the rear thru the bell housing then in to the starter. Check it out and let me know if that works. D.W.11

No, no bolt from the back at all. In fact the housing is completely smooth and rounded in the back where the starter intrudes into the flywheel area. I'm quite puzzled!
