Looking for tail lights 65-67 for Stout. Checked a posting from 06, sent an e-mail, but not sure if I'll get a response. Was wondering if they were also used on the landcruiser, which I can find on e-bay, would need to know what kinds would interchange. Thank you. May have parts for trade available if anyone is interested.

I work at Cabe Toyota in Long Beach CA, and we have one set of REPRODUCTION taillight lenses in stock (red/amber). They retail for $41 each ($82 set). We also have one set of all red reproduction lenses.
I'm holding the red/amber set for another customer, but if he doesn't buy them by this week they will be available. The red set is available now.
You can email parts(at)cabetoyota(dot)com Or call 1-562-595-7411

Mike, I'll check in with you next week. Steve replied as well, and I can get red/amber lenses but not the pans. I am actually missing the drivers side (US) pan in the back. Would you happen to have something along those lines? Thanks again!

Cool that Steve was able to help you with the lenses.
Sorry, no pans (lamp housings). These seem to be in big demand and there seems to be no good units out there. A co-worker has some very rusted-out units, but he says they are so bad he doesn't want to even sell them.
I wonder if someone could make and how much it might cost to make reproduction units?

Mike, What kind of demand? I work in R&E at a manufacturing facility and I have resources for this type of stuff. I normally wouldn't bother if there is something out there already. I do have a complete set between two trucks. I'll look into a cost. I intend on doing something about hubcaps as well (I don't want to be rolling around with my steel units) in a chromed plastic. I also intend on reproducing misc interior parts, rubber components, and maybe look at cast components (I currently need a thermostat housing as well) if demand is high, and supply is nil.

Well, I guess the use of "big" when refering to parts demands for the Stout is kind of relative to how many Stouts are out there. Let's leave it as there is a need for the parts. Some of the early Land Cruisers share components, so there is a cross market. It's definately something worth looking into though. Lately there seems to be a growing interest in the old Stouts and there is definately a lack of parts for them, especially for restoration jobs. I think some very needed parts would be the taillight assemblies (and probably the front light assemblies too), any rubber/weatherstips, and hub caps. Of course one of the biggest hurdles would be pricing for any reproduction stuff - Stouts aren't exactly thought of as high-end vehicles and I'm sure most owners are on the thirfty side.
You might want to get in touch with Mike Bingham at Cabe Toyota. He's the Stout guy that a lot of people go to for help. PM me if you want his contact info.

Absolutely correct Mike. This is purely fun and not profit, and if I can help someone else in the process, then fantastic. I'll keep everyone posted as this progresses.

I have a couple of pans on my parts truck. I don't remember what kind of condition they are in. What do you have to trade?

I thought I would post some pictures of the bucket I have. I am not sure what the FJ's are supposed to look like. Stamping dies are very expensive. I may be able to do a vaccum formed unit out an ABS, and add on some of the mounting hardware. i compared them to a long wheelbase fj45 and they look the same. not sure about the license plate light though.

I drew up a 3D model of the housing in Pro/E and had a couple of places look at it. The draw on the part would require multiple hits, and the more hits you have, the more money you'll spend on a die. I was able to get 2 sets together after much internet scrounging and help from Sours. This really is a great forum.
An interesting side note is that I purchased some FJ40 (73-84) lenses and gaskets, which are fairly inexpensive. The lenses and gaskets are longer because of the back up lights, but they are similar to the stouts in shape and a couple of the mounting holes actually line up. Using a dremel tool, a sacrificial side marker lens, and some Loctite superbonder 495, I was able to fashion a very economical and roadworthy set of Red/Amber lenses for my stout. They're a far cry from show quality, but I won't be upset if I break one either.
