Hey Mika! Thanks for the update on your project! The crank pulley should be the same on my 22R and your 20R motor. You should probably find a donor from here in the US. Your current pulley is already ruined If you wish to move forward with this idea, then I'll give you the ph# to a dismantlers here in San Jose, CA. I mailed your envelope last Friday (Nov. 28th) and I'm unsure how long it takes to get to Finland. Rest assured that it is on its way. Are you still in need of a vacuum advancer? Parts Voice did not show any participating dealer with that item in stock, but that doesn't mean that it is not available. I'll call my friends over at Toyota Parts and ask. BTW, the Toyota EPC refers to this part as a "controller." Keep up the good work! Rick

pt II regarding the RT134 Controller ---------------------------------------------
Mika, I just found out from my friends over at Toyota Parts Center that your controller is no longer available from Toyota. I even checked parts voice. In the EPC, there were a few applications and only one was still in the database. The p/n you found on your controller is 19220-38210, although the only p/n in the catalogue that showed good was 19220-38220 (CA Spec RT134 with 3-speed automatic) and this one is also no where to be found. I'm wondering if you can just use the part that fits on my truck. The only difference is that it will be for a 5-speed CA specs, & 22R. There are plenty left in the Toyota warehouse and on Parts Voice.
Just a thought! Let me know if I can help you any further.

The crank pulley should be the same on my 22R and your 20R motor. According to EPC, it's not. However, there may be just a little change and still it will fit in. There seems to be a few pulleys here in Finland available since 22R engine has been in a few Land Cruisers in the late 80's. I'll get back to you if there's anything I need. Thanks!

Ok! Let me know if this works out for you. This dismantlers here in town also carries 20R stuff that I forgot to mention. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cool! The caution plate was removed from an RT135 at the wrecking yard. Too bad the tail lights and license plate lamps were no good.

All the necessary decals have now been printed. I will post an envelope to Rick as soon as I have some extra time to drop in a post office. Thank you again, you've been very patient and a good friend I also have some (=plenty) extra decals, so if there's anyone wanting those, I'll be happy to sell some at cost.

Thank You, Mika! It would be good if one of these days we can meet and talk about our vehicles and exchange ideas while drinking a draft.
Keep up the good work and never hesitate to ask for any help regarding parts.

For your reference, here is the p/n: 13408-38010

My tinsmith-friend has again started working with the body. I asked him to make it look like as original as possible and this looks quite good. At least there's some progress again. Here are some of my latest pictures. Not so much progress lately, but this christmas time seems to be quite a busy time.

Hey Mika! GREAT pictures of the motor and the pulley! I like to buy new OEM parts (whatever is still available) that will "freshen" up the looks of my truck (i.e. lenses & trim moulding). My truck sat out in the parking lot at the grocery store where I worked for 13 years, although it was always garaged at night. At my current job, it still sits out in the sun, but gets shade later in the day. My paint still shines to this day. Some trim pieces really saw sun damage like my plastic chrome plated drip rail mouldings (which I have a replacement set and was also the last ones in the country). Everything on my truck still works even the cruise control Toyota installed.
Keep us the great work! Rick

That's why I didn't even try to do the rust repairs. Hey, thank you all for looking and commenting! Have a very merry Christmas! I'll get back to this next year!

Mike, I think you're moch more experienced in these projects than I am... But hey, during the holidays is't time to spend some quality time in the garage. Does anyone know how should the air pump be pulled back together? I opened it (easy, just a couple of bolts) and cleaned it inside. However, I cannot find any information from my manuals about how it should be lubricated. If I try to turn the pulley, it turns, but the pump keeps a horrible noise. I think there should be put some grease somewhere, but what kind of grease and where?

Some air pumps have a decal "Do Not Oil". In looking quickly thru some old Corona manuals that cover the Air Injection System, they only instruct to grease the front and rear bearings. Carlyn Dinkler cdinkler@bellsouth.net

they only instruct to grease the front and rear bearings. Wow, sounds really weird. The pump seems to be a really difficult to turn, so I thought there might be a need of some kind of lubricant. I also checked my books and there were only instructions of how to check the air pump belt tension. Thanks, Carlyn, I'll go without any oil. Today I've been cleaning greasy parts, painting them, cleaning the same parts again and painting them again. Nothing seemed to work well and almost all the paintings went wrong. I decided to disassemble the power steering pump and that worked well. Then I took the cooling fan and the fan clutch and tried to clen them. It took almost two hours to get them clean! Huh! Then I ran into a problem; the fan is mainly a plastic part but there is a metal ring in the middle of the fan. It has been attached to the fan with some kind of studs and I'm afraid I have to drill them off to get the metal part recoated. I still haven't even touched the alternator and the starter and I'm already feeling that there's too much of job left. I think it's better just take a few days off.

The last weldings are going on, I'm going to get the car back next weekend There were a lot of surprises, almost all the plates looking good were covered with an inch of filler I'll add more pictures sunday evening. Check back soon! Now this project will freeze for unknown time because of financial problems. The next step is the new paintwork but unfortunately I do not have the extra money. I also do not want to paint it cheap, so I'll have to wait patiently - and so do you. Thank you all for watching, helping and commenting. I'll get back to this when there will be some progress.

Now that I'm this far, there's no reason to start doing things worse. I keep on telling myself that this is so rare model that it's worth every effort. If I'm wrong, please do not tell me that in this phase... ;D

Wow! you are doing a beautiful job on this restoration that 20r looks better then new.
Are you still going to be a part of the restoration show by having your 20r and the body on display?
Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see your future progress.

Some day, yes. In the beginning of may here in Finland there's a show called "Classic Motorshow". My Corona is a representative of our Toyota club and we're planning to have 4 imported Toyotas on our stand: One of them is my Corona (imported from the U.S.) and there are two vehicles brought from Japan and one from Sweden. I'll post pictures here, too. We're going to make there a decoration looking like a garage where my Corona is being built. The engine will be there too. Thank you for your comments!

My baby really was at the show and I must say it really gathered looks! Most of the people didn't even recognize the car until they were told (by me) that is'a Toyota. We built a "garage" and the Corona was being "rebuilt" there. That was an interesting idea, we are used to show our finest vehicles (and sure, there were three nice cars there) but this year we wanted to challenge ourselves and show a car that is not ready yet. It was a success! There has nothing much happened. Toyotageek managed to get me a brand new "Luxury Edition" badge and I bought some other badges from eBay. Here are couple of pics (thanks to Toyotageek for the "Luxury Edition" picture):
