The 8RC & 18RC carburetors have the same hole patterns as the 3RC, and some Webers have the same hole patterns. You would then have to deal with: making the correct spacer carburetor to manifold, perhaps modifing the carburetor linkage & gas line, making the choke stove tubing work or changing to an electric choke, and chosing a different air cleaner.
The original 3RC carburetor is somewhat difficult, so you need to make sure there are no other problems (low or uneven compression or ignition problems) that make the 3RC carburetor seem to be worse than it might actually be.
A common problem with the 3RC carburetor is dieseling when you turn the key off. My solution is to leave the transmission in gear (automatic or manual), foot on brake & hand brake applied, turn the key off, and for a manual transmission let the clutch out to stop the dieseling. After the engine stops, put the automatic in park. Dieseling may harm the pistons and the exhaust smells terrible.
I remember my brother trying the 8RC carburetor (similar to the 3RC with some additional mechanical linkage) and saying that it seem to be less tempermental (this was probably 20 years ago when RT43's were daily drivers).
If you go to another carburetor, you might keep all the old parts for the next owner who might like the stock setup.
