Some other lovers of Toyota Diesel cars & trucks have established an official petition online, asking Toyota USA & Toyota Canada to bring back the Diesel engine option, not available in the USA since 1986. For those not familiar, the newest D4-D engine is a commonrail EFI turbo-Diesel, which can achieve 70 mpg on the highway and is fully capable of running on biodiesel fuels. It is much cleaner than the cleanest gas engines in other Toyotas, and the only reason that Toyota won't bring them here is that they will blow the Prius out of the market, thus wasting all their efforts on the heavy, complicated, expensive hybrid system. In other markets, the D4-D is available in the Yaris, Corolla, and a larger version of the D4-D is in the Hilux and Surf (4-Runner). Even if you don't plan to buy one if/when they come back, the Diesel guys would greatly appreciate your support! I have verified the petition's valididty, and your eMail address is safe with them. Here's a link to the petition: www.petitiononline.com/TOYD4D/The USA Toyota Diesel online discussion board is here: www.toyotadiesel.comThank you for your attention! Charles

Charles, Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
In this day & age I think US car buyers should have the option of buying the same engines that are offered in many other regions of the world, as long as environmental needs are fulfilled. Be it Diesel, or Hybrid - we should be given the choice. Toyota, let the consumers decide what we want. Even if such vehicles would need to be "Special Ordered" so be it... but give us the option.
