$16,740 Corona!!! I just received this news from a friend and it is a few weeks old, but, can you believe it?!It seems a 1966/67 Toyota Corona in near mint condition with only 8,500 miles on the odometer sold at the Silver Auctions in Arizona for the nice sum... $16,740!! What did they go for when new?! That's got to be over 4 to 5 times it's 'new' value!! Full story and pix are on the Hemmings Auto Blog - link to the complete story HERE .

Wow! It is an astonishing car. Whoever bought it probably missed out on buying one when they first came out, and now that he /she has enough money, did not mind spending it on this beauty. I would of done the same if my wallet was big enough . I had a tough time trying to get rid of my 67, which was totally restored, for $7500.. But now I am just keeping it.

One of my friend was AT the auction in late January, and e-mailed me :
"Feeling better and back from Scottsdale auctions! I saw an 8000-mile 1966 Corona sedan there, I need to check on how much $$ it brought! Looked like brand new!"
:oThis is the result....I will let him know, then!! He'll faint.

That is one fine looking example, no doubt. I would definately love to see some more photo's of it. Heck of a lot of coin indeed, but it's that old supply and demand thing....... if you were looking for a '66 Corona with under 10,000 Miles on it, then you'd know that you are going to have to pay. What's it really worth? I guess that's hard to answer given that there would be next to none left in the world, unrestored, mint condition, low miles.
Good luck to the new owner. I would love to buy something like that.

I'd say that someone was definitely trying to keep this one for making money. No one keeps the protective plastic on the door panels. I remember helping my father remove that stuff off a 1971 Datsun 510 sedan that he purchased new.
