Just thought I'd post up before these guys give everyone the impression that the 45 is more rare than the 25! I'd be at the Toyotafest if I weren't on the opposite side of the country.

Here's another one from our trail ride at the 2005 Gotham City Land Cruisers CMCC in PA. Mike Fox's '59, my '60, a BJ and a couple of those 45 that seem to be everywhere. ;D

Jim,
Thanks for joining & sharing pics of your '25' ... Wish you could make it out to Toyotafest ~ It would be nice to see more really "classic" Toyotas at the show! I think TLC will be bringing out a 58 or 59.

Mike, If you talk to them I'd like to know the real story on their green 25. Our guess was a '59 or '60 ............... first number of the VIN would tell for sure. Someone said it was the first imported...........no way on that one.

Someone said it was the first imported...........no way on that one. I'll check it out on the 13th. They have it registered as a 1958 - "The First Land Cruiser"
I'm very interested to find out more. What would be the difference in the VIN between a 59 & 60 for example? Is it as simple as the first # being a 5 vs. 6?

Yep, first digit of the VIN is the calendar year of the build: A 1958 would be 8FJ25XXXXX. Quite often they were titled a year or so after production, and it had a tag added or date stamped by the dealer on the plate, so you'll often have someone thinking they have a later year than it actually is. Here's some of my numbers as an example: forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?p=811395#post811395And a little discussion about TLC's: forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=63656I'd really like to hope TLC's is the first imported and it's been saved.

I'm trying to see if I can get some more details before the show. We do business with TLC, so I asked some of my co-workers to see what they can find out.
I have some sales records that I got directly from Toyota a few years ago. Here are the total Land Cruiser units sold for the first few years:
- 1958 - 1
- 1959 - 61
- 1960 - 162
- 1961 - 249
- 1962 - 598

Well, I was never able to get any more info on TLC's 58 LC, and it did not make it to the show as expected. I guess the answer to our question still eludes us!
