So, I own a 2015 Prius Plug-in hybrid.
I love it. Lots of reasons, but let me explain one of the big ones.
We live in AZ, and there's a pretty big hill between Phoenix and Prescott (or Flagstaff, or anywhere much north of Phx). Just south of Sunset Point Lookout Rest area.
Our Matrix has a bit of an issue getting up that hill, and if you get stuck behind a truck going 'slow', you either need to not care about slowing everyone else down when you switch lanes to try to pass, or you need to get a LONG running start from behind the truck, or something. It's just painful.
However, with my Plug-in Hybrid, it is not nearly as much of an issue. I don't need to plan a whole lot, it just goes when I say GO!
So, for various reasons I'm looking to replace it (the Plug-In Hybrid). But I want a hybrid that can get up that hill as well as or better than the plug-in did. I spent a lot of time researching acceleration of the various Toyotas we're interested in, and the numbers didn't make any sense. (How can a 2005 Matrix have as good acceleration numbers as the plug-in? I know from experience it doesn't).
So, now I'm seeking opinions of Toyota owners. Right now I'm considering the following vehicles (2022):
Corolla Hybrid
Prius Hybrid (I don't know which exact one, though, probably the C)
Venza Hybrid
Camry Hybrid.
For those owners of the above, what is your experience with accelerating up steep hills, as compared to other vehicles? (If you know of the AZ hill of which I speak, that's wonderful, but I'm interested in all experiences as I know we don't have the only steep hills ;-)
If you care to know our other requirements, they are: all the safety features, not too big (I'm pushing the size with the Venza, and possibly the Camry), hybrid, heated seats (we'll probably just pay extra for that one). I'm probably forgetting something, I'll come back and modify my post (assuming I can) if I remember the other things.
Thanks!
