Hello,
Does anyone know the transmission code for my 70 corona MKII wagon (automatic)? Also, what transmissions will be compatible w/ the 8rc if I want to convert to a manual tranny?
Thanks for the help

The automatic used in the RT6#/7# Mark II series from 02/69 to 12/71 with the 8RC & 18RC engines is the A30. I stock A30 transmission parts and I have several re-manufactured A30 transmissions in stock that were done many years ago for my own use as well as cores for parts. I have a fair stock of RT78/79 wagon parts but most of our wagons (eight) are late 71 and 72 models.
The A30 was also used on the RT8#/9# Corona from 02/70 to about 02/73, and they changed to the A40 thru 07/73. The linkage on the A30 used in the sedan (and probably the wagon) is slightly different from the A30 used on the Corona Mark II because the the Corona had a column shift.
So if you found an A40 from a late RT8#/9# with all the associated parts, it should work. You might want to rebuild whatever transmission you choose to use.
To change to a manual transmission, the 4-speed and 5-speed transmissions used with the 8/18RC engines on several vehicles should work if you get all the related parts. Like the pedal assemblies, clutch M/C, slave cylinder & lines, flywheel, shift lever, the sheet metal for the hole for the manual shift lever, and the console assembly. Thanks Carlyn!
Do you happen to stock all the components to convert to a standard transmission? Thanks again

Of the dozen or so RT6#/7# Corona Mark IIs that I have or have junked, most (10 out of 12) are or were A30 automatics. I do not have all the parts to make a conversion from the A30 to the 4-speed manual. I only have a few late vintage (shifter out top of the rear tail piece, early shift mechanism was on side of transmission) 4-speed transmissions used on the RT6#/7# Mark IIs or RT8#/9# Coronas. The pedal assemblies, sheet metal at the shifter, and console are hard to find items that you may need to buy a junker to get. Carlyn Dinkler cdinkler@bellsouth.net
