I'm a member of a ton of forums because I've owned a bunch of cars. I was looking hard for a Datsun 510 (early 70's) goon. Almost agreed to pay $2300 for one that had rust holes all in the trunk when I came across an ad on Craigslist for a 1978 Toyota Corona "complete." I've been to Japan a few times in the 90's and I'm sure I've seen cars like this over there but can't ever recall seeing one here that was actually on the road and not in a magazine.
Seller wanted $395 for it. Thought that was a low price for a complete car. Went out to take a look for myself and while looking at it, the seller came down to $250. Didn't even drive it, just gave him the cash, took the clean title and drove 56 miles back to my house from Startup WA.
Car drove like a champ for not being driven for a few years. Spiders everywhere inside, serious mildew odor and dog hair everywhere in the back seat. Got it home, it sat in the driveway for an hour and not a single drip of fluids.
Since I came in under budget, I went spend happy. 15x8 zero offset wheels with 195/50 tires, OBX header, Weber, magnaflow muffler, high flow cat, shocks/struts, 3 inch lowering blocks, new padding and black carpet kit, all new fuses, all new hoses, new clutch kit and new water pump. So, I've got my work cut out for me. The tranny is good but the clutch is slipping. I had a project 1986 Isuzu Trooper with inline 4 and a 90 Jeep within inline 6 so I should be able to work on this car. Got a ton of work on my hands but of course, the wheels had to go on after I got it detailed, deodorized and waxed. She cleaned up pretty good
Day I got it home last weekend
