The wire provides a ground for the breaker S/A that the points mount on. One end of the wire is soldered to the vacuum advance and the other end is connected under a screw on the breaker S/A. I have a replacement wire that can be used to make the repair, $2.17. Carlyn Dinkler cdinkler@bellsouth.net

Thanks for the info. Carlyn Dinkler! Does this look correct? It's the lower bare wire... Now I'm thinking it shouldn't be bare... hmm- (I messed with solder for like at least a few hours, then decided to tape-up the dist side and CLEAN the Vacuum Advance side, so when they are pressed together the wire grounds on the Vacuum Advance unit easier than the distributor)

It looks like it will do the job of providing a good ground from the connection at the vacuum advance to the breaker plate assembly. The wire should be bare and flexible to move as the breaker plate is rotated by the vacuum advance. I could help with parts or complete distributors. Carlyn Dinkler cdinkler@bellsouth.net

So what issues would there be if it did not have this ground? I see it on the spares that I have, but it is not on my distributor.
