I was wondering if anyone has succeeded in performing an electronic ignition (vs. point) conversion on the Stout?
I currently have the magnetic pickup from 1978 20R rigged onto an old point plate and set inside the distributor. There are two wires coming from this, one is red, one is white. I assume that the red is the positive lead? (any help would be appreciated). I have these going to the green and yellow lead off from a module I took off an '85 jeep with a 2.8. I may switch this module, as though it is a 4 pin, it doesn't follow the same lettering scheme as most GM modules. The other side is hooked to the positive and the negative sides of the coil (I still need to upgrade this) and I have a jumper wire going from the positive side of this over to a "start" ignition source.
The truck will fire, and lope, but won't stay running. This was my first attempt, so I'll be back at it tomorrow.
Also, I have 3 distributors I am working with. One is a 19100-40023, another is 19100-40024, and the final is a 19100-40025. The 24 is supposed to be the "new" number for the 23, but there are a number of differences, the 25 seems to have characteristics of both. What were the advantages of going to the 24 versus the 23, and what is the 25 for? Thanks.

The Toyota parts catalog shows that the 19100-40023 is the original part number for the distributor and there was a supercession to 19100-40024. The 19100-40025 is now invalid Toyota may have redesigned something, so that would be one reason for a supercession. For my truck, I always ask if the original part number is still available and most of the time it is not. With the superceded parts, it has always been a perfect fit and has proven just as reliable. Hope this helps! Rick

Thank you for the information Rick. It is appreciated. I stuck with the 23 for the mods.
I ended up canning the module off from the '85 jeep and went to one out of an olds. Running a lot better now. I haven't drove it, because I want to change out the coil.
If everything works out well, I'll post a how to.
