I was wondering the value of of the following "like-new" vehicle:
1980 Toyota Pickup, longbed 2.0L, 4-cylinder 2-wheel drive, 4-speed manual Clean, no dings "Factory purchased", no A/C, no radio 17,000 miles
Does this truck have any value as a collector's item? Besides the low mileage, is there anything rare about it?
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I'm just trying to get a feel for the value of this truck vs. actually selling it.
Thanks.

Our RN3# trucks are not worth that much. My truck was appraised @ $2,200.00 back in 1995 after a Chevy C/K pickup decided to run a stop sign and I happen to be driving across the intersection. My truck is of huge value to me since I am the original owner. I got my fully loaded SR5 (with the exception of the moon roof) in 1981 when I was a JR in HS. It's been with me ever since and now it is my daily driver to work. I will never sell it. BTW, my purchase price in Nov 1981 was $8,500.00
As far as rare...maybe the radio delete. Toyota did have a delete cover for the radio opening. I also know that 1980 was the last year for the 20R motor before the 22R was introduced.
I do believe that there is a market for these RN3# trucks. I every now and then get offers to sell mine. It sounds like you have a nice looking truck...want to post some pictures for us?
If you are in Southern CA, I know of a guy who is looking for a longbed.
I hope this helps! Ask more questions if you need.

Rick - Thanks for the feedback. I'm actually doing some research for a relative who doesn't have a computer. He has some pictures that I need to get from him, but they're non-digital, so I'll have to scan them before posting.
So, assuming the only "rare" qualities of this "like-new" 1980 Toyota pickup are the factory radio delete cover and it was the last year of the 20R motor, what would this truck be worth? The reason I'm trying to be subtle about asking the value is that my relative was informed that he might be able to get anywhere from $50-200K for this vehicle. [Please do not flame me, I'm only passing the information I got from him!]
At first, I thought he was either joking or had misplaced a decimal point, but he was serious and confirmed his price. Before telling him that he was totally out of his mind, I thought it was only fair to research the value of his truck. Who knows, maybe he did have a rare one-of-a-kind collector's item and there's some rich collector who must have it.
My guess is that one of his buddies saw a car auction on cable where some rare model, collectible truck sold for $200K and then convinced my relative that he could get that much. Now he's considering this his lottery ticket. Fortunately, others have told him that he can't get squat, and I'm starting to realize that may be closer to the truth.
So, what would be a fair price for this truck (and I'll try to break the news to him gently)?

Q: what would this truck be worth? My best guess would be no more than $2,000.00 on the high end and no less than $1,000.00 on the low end. I know it is a range, but there are some people who are willing to pay a price for our RN3#/4#. They were made well and has a nice looking body style. The R motor is very durable. A guy like me who likes the old school Toyota's may pay the upper price for an all original truck.
Just the other day, I was asked if I would sell my truck.
The only exception if the Toyota Museum down in Southern CA wanted this truck, then they may offer a bit more. I believe that they have the 1st produced 1979 SR5 RN34-000001.
In 1983, Toyota rolled out a Limited Edition SR5 called the Mojave. Now that may get a $3K price if in perfect, flawless condition.
Hope this helps! Keep us posted! Rick

My 2cents worth...
$50K to $200K is wishfull thinking. I'm no car appraiser, and no expert on Toyota Trucks, but I'd venture to guess that a more reasonable range would be anywhere from $2,000 to $8,000 depending on condition, deisirability, and buyer (with $2,000 to $4,000 being more realistic).

Rick & toyotageek - Thanks for the information and giving me a more realistic ballpark figure on the value of the truck. I’ll give my relative the numbers and let reality set in. Hopefully he’ll come to his senses and agree to sell the truck for reasonable amount. I’ll keep you informed.
