The 18RC was used about 8/71 to 08/74 in the USA and replaced the 8RC which was very similar, main differences being valves & pistons. The engine was designed for leaded gas and the oil & filter had to be changed at 3000 mile intervals or the timing chains & tensioners would fail or become very noisy before 100,000 miles. We used these engines from about 1970 to 1990 for maybe 500,000 miles in several Corona Mark II wagons.
Some specs: Bore & stroke 88.5mm x80mm or 3.48" x 3.15" Displacement 1968cc or 120ci Compression ratio 8.5:1 (varied with heads) Net HP 97 at 5500rpm Net torque 106 at 3600rpm
Problems in the 18RC, in addition to timing chains & tensioners, include poor water circulation in cylinder #3 in the early heads which caused burnt valves, and loss of valve adjustment in heads without harden seats & unleaded gas (the valves will slowly eat into the head). Constant high speed driving (over 70mph) without overdrive can really shorten the life of these engines including the 3RC & 8RC.
Parts should be easy to find if you don't mind looking. I have an 8/18RC parts catalog (mine) and I stock most parts required to rebuild the engine. I have a couple of remanufastued engines that I built for myself but have not used. Carlyn Dinkler cdinkler@bellsouth.net

My catalogs are on paper, and the 8/18RC engine parts listing is about 30 pages or so. Send your mailing address and I will mail a copy. If you pull & disassemble the engine, you may have to only change the timing chains & tensioners, rings, and do a valve job to make the engine usable for another 100,000 miles.
