Hi My name is Joe and I am from the East Bay Area in Califorina. I am a huge toyota fan. I have owned over 45 cars in my life and my most beloved were my toyotas. I currently own a 2010 Lexus IS350 (daily Driver), a 2013 Prius (wifey's car), a 2004 Sienna LE (Family and stuff mover lol), and just acquired a 1974 Celica GT which is my current project. I have owned a 1989 Tercel EZ, 1986 Celica GTS, 1987 Celica GTS, 1973 Celica ST, 1998 Lexus GS400, 2005 Scion xA.
I bought the Celica a few weeks ago from LA and i think the previous owner was a TORC member because there were some TORC event stickers inside the car. The car was repainted yellow from its original brown and the interior is the cream and brown color. The previous owner put in a ported 3TC and a T-50 trans with a single 32/36 weber and headers. It runs a little rich but is peppy. It has Bilstein short stroke shocks up front and some kind of aftermarket shocks in the rears and toyota motorsports springs all around and Old Skool riken mesh rims. The rearend has a Zenki LSD in the original rear end so it still has drum brakes . The trans has a TRD short shift kit. Interior is old and really ratty but theres "good bones" to work with. WIll need to rebuild or fab interior bits as I go.
Plans: I plan on going for more of a restoration type for shows and weekends rather than a race car. I have purchased a 2TG with dual mikunis, TRD headers. Not sure if it will need an overhaul but that goes in soon. I am completely redoing the interior with black and tan/Saddle leather 70's Japanese style patterned seats throughout black carpet with new dynomatting. I am also planning on doing the trunk with custom panels and carpet. Complete paint job-will try to get down to bare metal and eliminate the minimal rust spots and pound out some dents. I am replacing the seat belts with Retro belts and will somehow bypass the stupid Seat belt buzzer/light. WIll need to redo the door cards and headliner. I think the old owner meant well, but the wiring and interior bits are all screwed up. I will be rewiring the car to near stock (except for the seatbelt indicators), the dash needs rebuilding as well and the glove box is well non existent. Old owner took out the heater core for a "bypass" setup, yeah not my style. I want everything to work so I will either reinstall the heater core/blower or get a restomod system put in. Also he has the exhaust setup with a muffler connected to the end of the header so it dumps exhaust gas in the cabin while driving, I will get this sorted out with a proper custom exhaust. I will put in a retro style audio headunit either the Retro Sound hermosa or a blaupunkt with bluetooth etc but with a retro classic fascia and just 5 1/4 speakers on the doors and rear decklid and the center 6x9 and maybe a small amp. Anyway, I plan on spending about 30-35K and will likely take 2 years to complete. Here are some pics:
