How deep do you want to go into the engine or not? On my 77te51 I have a Weber carb. (32/36 dgav ) an a iron exhaust manifold that has the duel outlet and head pipe ( tri y ) and I did some distributor tuning and that really woke up the engine. It will now turn 7000 rpm but most of that last 1000 is slow getting there. So the factory 6200 limit is close to what I drive it to now. Before that it didn't have much after 5600 rpm. And thats all with a stock bottom end. A real sleeper would have a 2tg or 3tg In It. Keep the exhaust quiet and you can run it harder and not annoy anybody with noise at least. They just wont like seeing your tail light going off in the distance. Beyond that, Higher compression, more cam ( contact comp cams for lots of choices ), open up the exhaust and put a good after market ignition system Like MSD and hold on tight for a fun ride. I race a 20R dirt track car with 180hp, I'v been driving my 77TE51 since dec.28th,1976 and Ive been selling OE and HP auto parts for over 30 year so I think I know a bit about this stuff. BUT- don' forget the small details. Big power is great but if it wont idle its no fun.
